Three-quarters of fmcg manufacturers feel they need a better system in place to manage suppliers post-Horsegate, according to research.

Last year, there were a “worrying” number of disruptions to the fmcg supply chain, according to the Achilles survey of 146 of the UK’s largest manufacturers. Of those surveyed, 36% said they had suffered more than 50 supply chain disruptions in 2013, 26% reported between one and 10, and only 15% reported none.

“This confirms the food sector has suffered an unprecedented number of supply chain disruptions in recent months; almost all of which involve suppliers in lower tiers of the chain,” said Achilles CEO Adrian Chamberlain.
