Nespresso-compatible coffee pod brand Café Pod has extended its range with a strong Ristretto blend (rsp: £2.75/10-pack) as part of an ambitious plan to become a ‘multimillion’ player.

The London supplier launched its pods into over 200 Waitrose stores a year ago, and currently has sales of £750,000, through the original four-strong comprising Smooth, Intense, Light & Lively and decaf variants. But a two-year plan will transform sales, said commercial director Philip Banfield, with up to three blends to be added next year, with a focus on quality, as well as increased distribution in indies and “affluent supermarket stores”.

“As the pod market has grown we have seen producers focusing on availability and value alone, forgetting quality is key in this category,” added Banfield.
