Arla Foods has moved Simon Stevens to its head office in Leeds to manage total UK product sales as it embarks on an ambitious development programme.
He replaces Andrew Simpson as UK sales director, with Simpson taking the role of president of Arla Foods in the US. Stevens was previously Unilever's European portfolio director, based in Rome. He was in charge of ice cream sales, working with Birds Eye Wall's. He worked for Unilever for 14 years and his other roles included trading director for major UK multiples and head of UK ice cream marketing.
He said: "I am joining Arla Foods at an exciting time. The company has already experienced strong growth and has an aggressive agenda for expansion and innovation and a clear vision to be the natural first choice dairy company."
Stevens joins following Arla's announcement earlier this year that it planned to start work on a £40m, 32-acre state-of-the-art dairy in Stourport, near Leeds. The plant is due to open in 2004.
Arla is also considering building a further distribution centre in the south of England in the next five years and is seeking to expand capacity at its Oakthorpe factory in north London.
