5 Our mystery shopper left the Asda store in Crawley very disappointed. He was unable to find five items on his shopping list. The "very unhelpful" staff pointed him in the general direction of goods, rather than leading him directly to them. Worse yet, when he asked for houmous, they directed him to the haggis.

tesco Park Road, Loughborough,Leicestershire
1 Several parts of the Tesco store in Loughborough were closed due to renovation work when our shopper visited. However, she said the staff were very helpful and the store had extra staff on hand to guide customers to the products they were looking for. However, the store was out of stock of McCain's Homefries.
We visited on 4 August 2006 at 16.45. Our shop lasted 44 minutes. Time spent at the checkout was 4 minutes.
sainsbury's Emersons Green, Bristol
3 Our mystery shopper found that the Sainsbury's store on Emersons Green in Bristol was very dirty. She also said that there were "lots of gaps" on the majority of shelves in both fresh and ambient product sections. The store was sold out of pears, Jacob's Creek Chardonnay and Cathedral City mature Cheddar.

morrisons Hollinwood Avenue, Oldham
0 The Morrisons superstore on Hollinwood Avenue in Oldham won our top store award this week for perfect availability and excellent service. Our shopper noted that the store offered Rocha pears from Portugal and lemons from Argentina. He also said there were" lots of tempting promotions" visible around the store.

somerfield Springburn Way, Glasgow
4 The Somerfield on Springburn Way in Glasgow was very clean and tidy, according to our mystery shopper. The store was running a number of "very good deals" on wine. The store did not stock own label ambient apple juice and was out of stock of houmous, Sacla classic pesto and own label penne pasta.

waitrose Western Road, Brighton
4 Our Waitrose mystery shopper had availability problems yet again, this time because the store did not stock certain products or sizes, for example Kellogg's variety eight-pack. She noted that the fruit and vegetable section was "fully stocked, very fresh and full of colour".
