The retailer chart is stable this week, with Asda forcing the only change in positioning down to second place after sharing the top spot with Morrisons last week. Although Safeway remains in the same position it has increased its share of percentage points by five. Confectionery is most noticeably strong in Safeway with a number of off-fixture displays combined with price promotions. Morrisons at the top of the chart continues to focus heavily on alcoholic drinks with multiple floor stacks. Alcoholic drinks remains at number one in the category chart although its lead has diminished slightly. Both soft drinks and household move up the chart by one place, pushing frozen down to number five. Multibuy offers are widely used in the soft drinks category while household leans more towards price promotions and extra fill offers. Once again everything changes in the brand chart as Nestle and Coca-Cola move up to take first and second place respectively. Nestle increasingly features more promotions on confectionery lines to coincide with the run-up to Christmas. This is reinforced by offers on various cereals. Cadbury's, McVitie's and Birds Eye all move down the chart. There are four new entries this week, including Kellogg's and Carling, with Kellogg's particularly strong in Safeway. In the own label chart frozen continues at number one and soft drinks leaps from number five to second place. There are three new entries in the chart cakes and biscuits, chilled and home baking. The prominence of home baking is clearly linked to Christmas with festive cakes. {{INSIGHT }}
