Latest technology being launched at CRS included an instant cash counting machine and a new security tagging system, geared for convenience stores.

Fire and security company ADT, which provides systems for Asda, has created a version for smaller sites, at a cost of around £1,700.

The system uses mini pedestals in the doorway which set off an alarm if a tagged item has not been deactivated.

Cash solutions company Tellermate launched its new CoinMate plastic shaker, which instantly sorts mixed coins by filtering them through the holes until they reach the level for their denomination.

And an electronic counting system, the Tellermate TY, allows a retailer to count cash and banknotes from a till in under a minute, weighing mixed coins.

It also allows the retailer to check change from the bank without opening the wrappers.
