Norman Bell, 41, has announced his resignation from Somerfield after nine years with the food chain. Bell oversaw the integration of the Kwik Save stores to Somerfield earlier this year but his most recent role was director of home shopping. He started his career as commercial director for the Somerfield business unit, and was also md of the group's Food Giant division. Bell is due to take up a new position as operations director for the Wickes chain of DIY stores. EUROPEAN HEAD FOR COCA-COLA Coca-Cola's new chief executive Douglas Daft has appointed Charles Frenette head of marketing, Europe, and executive vice president. As head of European operations, it will be Frenette's role to boost Coke's image this side of the Atlantic. Frenette takes over from William Casey, 58, who recently announced his retirement after 32 years with the company. Casey will stay on at Coke as a consultant during the transition period. PETE & JOHNNY AND PETER Pete & Johnny has appointed Peter Moore as md following Harry Cragoe's promotion to chairman. Moore joins the fruit juice company from Vimto Soft Drinks where he was operations director. He will be based at Pete & Johnny's factory at Newark. The company, which currently produces eight regular fruit smoothies and two functional juices, aims to grow Pete & Johnny into an £8m business in 2000 with plans for a £150,000 extension to its factory and an investment of £500,000 on new equipment. BATLEYS MEN MOVE ON Two former buyers at cash and carry chain Batleys have taken up new appointments at a drinks wholesaler and rival cash and carry respectively. Former beer buyer Mark Cox, 27, has been snapped up by Winerite of Leeds ­ the drinks wholesaler bought out by Palmer & Harvey McLane last April. Paul Bagshaw, Bradford depot buyer, has joined Parfetts. At Winerite Cox will be responsible for the company's beer portfolio as well as the drinks wholesaler's exclusive range including the Challenge and Steinhof brands. Cox replaces Peter Richardson who left Winerite six months ago. Bagshaw joined Batleys in November 1995 and during that time has worked at three of the company's depots. In his new role as buying controller at Parfetts' Halifax depot, he is responsible for managing the buying team. {{INSIDE BACK COVER }}
