Tesco is set to launch a degree in store management as part of its training package for staff.

The retailer is set to launch the Tesco Foundation Degree (Arts) this month. It is hoping that the two year course will be recognised as the national qualification for store managers. It is understood the curriculum will feature classes on in-store display, special offers and shelf-stacking.

The course could even be offered to other retailers who can tailor the classes to suit their needs. Tesco staff who take up the degree will be taught via a mixture of classes at local universities, online and on the job training.

Meanwhile all eyes are on the retailers this week ahead of its annual results tomorrow. Despite tough trading conditions, increased competition from rivals and rumours that its US venture is under-performing, Tesco is expected to announce increase in both sales and pre-tax profit of more than 10%.
