Somerfield is searching for a new marketing director ­ only five months after a restructure which resulted in the appointment of Richard Smith as head of the department. The announcement follows Smith's move to the group's recently created change management department which will overlook the sale of the Kwik Save stores. He will work alongside change management director Kathryn Brown. Somerfield said Smith's new role, primarily in communications, will enable him to utilise his "key strength". The struggling chain has yet to announce his successor. A FAMILY AFFAIR Warburtons, the family baker, has announced current chairman Ross Warburton, 41, will step down in March 2001. He will be succeeded by his cousin Jonathan Warburton, 42 ­ currently joint md of the Bolton business. Jonathan Warburton will assume the role of deputy chairman at the end of July this year. At the same time 44 year old Brett Warburton, joint md, will take on sole responsibility for the Bolton operation. Ross Warburton, chairman for 10 years, will remain a director on a part time basis. There are also plans to further strengthen the operations board with other senior appointments. GRANT'S GLENFIDDICH GUY William Grant & Sons has appointed Mark Jaffe as international marketing manager. Jaffe joins the company from United Distillers and Vintners, where he was marketing manager for Gordon's Gin. He will oversee the implementation and development of the international marketing strategy for Glenfiddich and The Balvenie brands, as well as new brand development for the malt category. US PRESIDENT FOR ALLIED DOMECQ Todd Martin, global marketing director at drinks giant Allied Domecq, has been promoted to the group's main board and becomes president of the US operation. He takes over from George McCarthy who is retiring. Martin joined Allied Domecq in March 1998 after being lured from PepsiCo. As marketing director for the spirits and wine division, he was responsible for the international marketing of the company's brands.
