How they performed

Spar provided a full list this week and impressed our shopper with a clean and tidy store. The shelves were well presented with attractive displays and the aisles were free of packing trolleys. Our shopper said staff were pleasant and helpful and there were some good promotions including 2-for-£2.30 on 2-litre bottles of Coca-Cola.

Midlands Co-operative's supermarket also provided all items on our list. Our shopper said the store was clean and tidy and was well merchandised. Displays were attractively presented, so she had no problems finding the products she wanted.

The checkout operator was polite and automatically packed our shopper's bags. Our shopper said the store had a good range of products and had its own car park.

Tesco Express impressed our shopper although it did not provide a full basket. The store was clean and tidy and our shopper said it was well merchandised. Staff were polite and the checkout assistant greeted her and offered to pack her bags.

Sainsbury's Local also provided a good level of customer service, although it did not provide a full basket. The store was clean with attractive, well-presented displays. The aisles were not free of shelf-stackers but staff were polite and helpful, making for a good shop.

Londis provided everything on our list except Tetley tea bags. Our shopper said the store was clean and well merchandised with friendly staff who greeted him at the checkout. However, he said the decor was a bit tired and needed some work to make it more welcoming, although it was clear of packing trolleys.
