Sir, Lib Dem MEPs and our Continental allies in the European Parliament have put forward an amendment to exclude eggs and other foods such as bread rolls sold by number from the requirement to label by total pack weight. It's nonsense to add more red tape and expense for producers with no benefit to shoppers.

I urge the UK government to push for a common-sense exemption for eggs, rolls etc, so that when the draft law comes back to the European Parliament for sign-off we can get a better result.

Sarah Ludford, London Lib Dem MEP
