GlaxoSmithKline is to stop putting zinc in its denture adhesives after being sued by hundreds of people in the US who claim to have suffered nerve damage after using the products.

GSK, which makes the Super Poligrip range of adhesives, yesterday said: “We are taking these actions because we have become aware of potential health problems associated with long-term excessive use of our zinc-containing denture adhesive products.”

A spokeswoman called the move “a precautionary measure to minimise the risk to consumers”, according to The Times.
