All who have participated in the effort to sustain our country should be immensely proud, says Charles Wilson

Sir, The past few weeks have placed unprecedented pressure on our grocery supply chain. Our trade has been put in the spotlight and it has delivered.

This has only been possible through the dedication and courage of colleagues in stores, depots, factories and lorries. All who have participated in the nationwide effort to sustain our country should be immensely proud.

However, many on the frontline will inevitably face hardship because of Covid-19. Through our charity GroceryAid, the trade has a 163-year history of supporting colleagues. As president, I have seen first-hand the difference GroceryAid makes to lives and we stand ready for the challenge ahead.

We do need your help, and many have generously leant in to support. Thank you very much to those that have already done so and also to those who will do so in the future.

As ever, our trade comes together when it matters.

Charles Wilson, GroceryAid president, chief executive of Booker
