Your story ‘Wyke Farms Crunchy is “a first” for cheese’ claims Crunchy Extra Mature Farmhouse Cheddar is “a first for the category”. This statement is so inaccurate it should be unprintable!

Calcium lacate crystals were first seen in New Zealand and Canadian Cheddars more than 30 years ago. Fifteen years ago a brand called Coastal was originated by Ford Farm and developed at Ashley Chase in Dorset.

Initially it was sold in the US, as it has a history of liking crunchy cheese. Following the Coastal success, Fayrefield Foods developed Colliers, then Dairy Crest brought out Cornish Cruncher.

So this new cheese is hardly a first.
