Sir: As a producer and plant owner in South America, I would like to comment that not all countries in South America should be tarred with the same brush (’Will deforestation leave beef supply chains exposed,’ 20 March). Uruguay has a unique individual beef traceability by law and should be recognised as an example of sustainable farming to all agricultural countries. Deforestation is a major world problem, but please give some encouragement to countries like Uruguay, which sets an example with very little recognition for its efforts towards sustainable food production.
