Fairtrade hot beverage company Cafédirect has raised £2m in the first stage of its £5m public shares issue. Over 12,000 people have applied for a prospectus and more than 2,000 have applied for shares, averaging £900 per application. Most of the money is from private investors. Cafédirect CEO Penny Newman said she was confident the target of £5m would be raised.
