A new Carbolite confectionery range will give retailers the chance to cash in on the low carbohydrate diet craze, according to Retail Brands.
The distributor has teamed up with Food Brokers and brought the brand - a big hit in the US - to this side of the Atlantic. It has already agreed listings in Superdrug and Benjy’s outlets and says the new partnership will increase distribution reach through the retail and pharmacy trade.
The company values the UK market for slimming foods at £111m and estimates growth of £125m by 2006.
Chairman Rob Ellert said the low carb category had “immense potential”, with some UK retailers demanding product three months ahead of schedule.
The range comprises 20g chocolate almond, chocolate crisp, chocolate truffle and milk chocolate bars, (rsp £1.25), with further extensions planned.
