Exporters could continue to enjoy dedicated support after Food from Britain is wound up in March 2009.

The government and FFB have met to discuss continuing FFB's work on a private basis from next April, and hope to have a successor in place by mid-July.

"We are considering if there is scope for alternative arrangements for dedicated export support," said Hilary Benn, environment secretary. "This may involve the licensing of the brand, or transfer of certain elements to the private sector."

Defra and FFB will have a second meeting with interested parties on 21 April.
