The NME is celebrating its 50th birthday by joining other major music titles on the news stand for the first time. The move follows a resizing of the music title and a move to a glossy cover  both of which will be unveiled on April 17. Historically, NME has been situated away from glossy magazines, and with other paper' publications, and although it will retain its newspaper format the title's new cover and size will allow it to sit alongside its rivals. There will also be increased pagination and a refreshed logo. Neil Robinson, publishing and online director, NME said: "The magazine market is as congested and competitive as ever and over the last 10 years the floor position of NME in newsagents has been marginalised. With an improved display position, investment in the editorial product and major awareness of the NME through its 50th year activity, I'm confident we are set for an exciting year." The 50th anniversary issue includes special editorial features including the top 50 music icons in the history of the NME; music celebrities pictured with their first NME covershots and exclusive material from NME archives. Cover price is £1.50; distribution is by Marketforce. {{CTN }}
