The food industry appears to have fallen out of royal favour with a paltry three medals in the Queen's Birthday Honours announced last weekend.
Lizzie Vann, founder and managing director of specialist children's food company Organix, was awarded the OBE for her services to the organic food industry.
She set up Organix nine years ago, and its products are now listed in most major multiples and achieve annual retail sales in excess of £8m.
Sainsbury group company secretary Nigel Matthews also picked up an OBE in recognition of his contribution to Sainsbury, where he has worked for 25 years, and his work with the British Retail Consortium, IGD and other trade bodies.
Trefor Campbell, managing director of fresh and chilled poultry products company Moy Park, added a CBE to the OBE he already held for his contribution to the food industry.
Campbell was the first chairman of the Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Queen's University, Belfast, in 1998.
