Blue Nun is to break the habit of a lifetime - by bringing out a wine-based RTD bearing the famous brand’s name.

Slinky will be the first drink of its kind in the UK to be associated with a well-known wine.

However, retailers claim pressure from the recent Budget, which saw the Chancellor put a 4p hike on a bottle of wine, could hinder the innovation. Because it has wine as its base ingredient, it too will be hit by the rise.

Buyers believe Slinky - a spin-off from the German label made famous in the seventies when Liebfraumilch was crowned king - will face a testing future in the UK after the 5.5% abv drink, a blend of wine and citrus, hits shelves in June.
