Sir; Your article on soaring wheat costs rightly drew attention to the impacts on millers and bakers ('Rocketing wheat costs start to bite', The Grocer, 21 July, p5). Just as importantly, dramatic rises in feed wheat prices are already starting to hit the pig production sector with a consequent rise in the cost of production equivalent to 11p-12p per kg.

Now is the time for supermarket retailers to live up to their commitments to engage more with their primary UK suppliers, and work with pig producers and processors to mitigate higher animal feed prices. Let's hope their words are underpinned by real integrity of approach.
