Gavin Milligan, the “always marvellous” sales director at Parripak, loves the taste of cactus in the morning

What was your first-ever job? Stacking shelves in a Co-op in Switzerland when I was staying with relatives.

You've got 25 words to describe your career to date. Everything from pharmaceuticals, academia and agro-chemicals to cakes, soup, ready meals and veg.

How do you describe your job to mates? It never comes up in conversation! But one is convinced I sell frozen carrots to a blacksmith Parripak has a site in Gretna.

What is the worst job you've ever had? Managing factory ablutions (a shower block where the factory workers showered after a shift) and workwear laundry.

If you could change one thing in the grocery industry what would it be? I'd like to see a bit less short-termism.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The variety. Parripak has customers in a wide range of sectors.

And the least rewarding? Sitting in traffic jams between Bedfordshire and Gretna. Frustrating and boring.

What's your best interview tip? Don't waffle. Always come prepared so you know what you are talking about.

Where do you hope to be in five years? On a yacht in the Caribbean.

What's your nickname? I don't have any that could be printed here.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A chauffeur. Traffic jams eat up valuable time that could be spent in the office.

What is your motto in life? "Always marvellous."

What do you like to do outside work? Reading, travel, socialising.

What was the first music single you bought? Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A scientist.

What's your favourite movie? Airplane. A bit dated now but groundbreaking humour in its day.

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? There are so many, nothing stands out.

Do you have any phobias? Anything large with more than four legs is a bit dodgy.

Which celebrity would you pick to join your staff? Edward Scissorhands. He'd be really good at chopping veg.

What would you request as your final meal? Vegetarian chilli using Parripak veg.

What's the weirdest thing you've eaten? Cactus. Is that one of your 5-a-day?

What luxury would you have on your desert island? A speedboat with lots of fuel.

What animal best reflects your personality? A rhino - vegetarian, thick-skinned and short-sighted.
