What was your first-ever job?

Picking tomatoes in Guernsey. It didn't last long, as my friend and I decided to have a tomato fight to relieve our boredom. The glasshouse owner didn't appreciate the extra ventilation created.

What was your worst job interview?

Applying for the post of assistant librarian when asked what experience I had, I said: "I know the alphabet." They didn't seem impressed.

What was the first music single you bought?

My Coo Ca Choo by Alvin Stardust. It seemed cool at the time!

How do you describe your job to your mates?

I sell tomatoes, amongst other things.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Winning new business for the brands that we represent, such as Crespo olives, Cirio tomato products, Sacla' pesto, Bertolli oils and Starbucks Via.

What is the least rewarding part?

Unrealistic deadlines.

What is your motto in life? 

I'm inspired by Mother Teresa's quote: "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."

What's your nickname?

I don't have one but answer to "hey grumpy" or "oi you".

If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be?

Very predictable petrolhead answer: Aston Martin DB9. Beautiful, stylish English engineering at its best.

What's your favourite film and why?

Dead Poets Society. It is an inspirational story improved by Robin Williams' versatility.

Do you have any phobias? 

Looking at my wife's bank account.

If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why?

Michael McIntyre, because we would have a laugh!

If you could change one thing in the grocery industry what would it be?

Buyers moving so quickly from one category to the next. Sometimes you've only just introduced yourself before they have to move on.

What luxury would you have on your desert island? 

My iPad and Starbucks Via coffee. There is real appeal in the idea of being in touch with the world and enjoying a tropical view while drinking great coffee.

What animal best reflects your personality and why?

I asked my young sons, who suggested a duck because I can swim, and a rhinoceros because I have "a big nose". Wish I hadn't asked!
