What’s it like to work for your company? Fantastic. I walk in each morning and really have influence over what will happen.

Why is it a good employer? We really care about our colleagues. Being a small employer has its challenges we know everyone personally and that generates a sense of responsibility. But it also has a massive upside, with commitment, flexibility and support from the team.

What’s the best thing about working there? The sense of achievement we have a successful, vibrant business despite the challenges of rebuilding the business after fire destroyed our former site in 2005. There is a real sense that when we pull together we can achieve whatever we need to, as demonstrated by current growth in volume and profit despite a challenging global economy.

Does the company offer any unusual benefits? We offer all the usual benefits pension, healthcare, dental plan, childcare vouchers but the most unusual is the HUSH platform. This is our web-based access to all that AHG/MWB Group (our parent company) has to offer. This gives all staff access to affordable hotel deals, offers at Liberty, and discounted meals at Searcy of London venues.

How does the company differ from its rivals? Our distillery was established in 1761 well ahead of our global competitors. Our great heritage delivers not only our skill and pedigree, but customer trust.

Is there a definable company culture? Our culture is evolving, but it’s predominantly a culture of adhocracy, moving to more of a market-focused culture.

If the company were a car what would it be and why? It would be a red convertible Karmann Ghia. It’s stylish yet unpretentious, both timeless and with heritage.

What’s the training like? All our warehouse team now have an NVQ level 2 or 3 in distribution. In 2010 we are likely to roll out a business improvement NVQ to our production teams. Two members of staff are working on an OU degree, and a couple of finance staff are working towards their CIMA qualifications.

What’s your proudest achievement over the past 12 months? Improving the way we communicate, such as through quarterly communications sessions and key manager lunches. Our new suggestions scheme allows employees even more opportunity to influence the business. The CEO, Christian Rose, also has informal lunches with randomly selected staff.

What’s the most important HR issue at the moment? Preparing for the expansion of our portfolio and the development of new distribution internationally.

Are you looking for any people right now? Marketing and commercial specialists.
