Watchdogs have dismissed claims that a Sainsbury poster implied its strawberries were picked in the morning and sent straight to its supermarkets.
The poster stated: “Our strawberries travel from field to store in less than a day and are picked before 7am to seal in their flavour… Sainsbury’s making the summer taste better”.
Sainsbury explained that the strawberries were picked in the morning and taken straight to a storage facility. The fruit was packed by 11am and distributed to its supermarkets for the next morning.
The FSA accepted the claim that a day was a 24-hour period and that the strawberries travelled from field to supermarket within this time.
