Sainsbury’s is next month relaunching its nine-strong chilled Italian pizza line-up as a By Sainsbury’s range with stone-baked bases.

The retailer said stone-baked bases were increasingly popular in the UK chilled and frozen markets, and in high-street restaurants.

Writing in its staff magazine The Journal, Sainsbury’s added the new bases were baked on a bed of lava stones quarried from the base of Mt Etna in a brick-lined pizza oven.
