Master of Wine and wine buyer for Berry Brothers and Rudd This has a lemon colour with a hint of opaqueness. It smells intensely of ripe lemons and a little honey. The palate is gently sparkling with freshening acidity and sufficient sweetness to balance the citric flavours, but this also leaves the 4% alcohol hardly noticeable. The flavour predominates in the front of the palate and dissipates quickly, as does the sparkle. It is a simple, easy quaffing liquid without complexity or length and which does not leave the palate refreshed. The product appears to have the challenging marketing position of being part wine-based cooler' and part ready-mixed drink in a 75cl format. You reach for a bottle of Limonesco to cool you down. But then one look at the design, with its radioactive lemons, and you are suddenly transported back to Clapham. All the summer cues are there  frosted bottle, yellow and blue, refreshing in colour. But what about the wine cues? Apart from that, I feel the design does its job. It comes across as a flat watered down lemon drink which is as low in alcohol as it is in lemon zing, but I am sure my Mum will take it round to her friend's house for a drink with the ladies. Rating out of 25  12 Steve Mayes Category controller at Landmark It's 70 degrees outside and the whole office has just had a good taste bypass and is totally loved-up on Limonesco. They say the frosted bottle is stunning, the label is sooo classy, the liquid is like lemon nectar that's ideal for drinking on lazy afternoons in the sun, and it's a bargain at £2.99. I think the price is high given the margin potential and the competition. It will fit in well to the wine-style drinks category, but this must be managed on a one-in-one-out basis as it's quite fickle and also watched closely for seasonality. Likely to succeed, but personally not to my taste. Rating out of 25  18 Total score out of 100  64 {{DRINKS }}
