Half of all soups contain more than the recommended 0.6g of salt per 100g, according to Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH).

A survey of 576 varieties of soup by CASH found the average salt content per serving was 1.6g, while one in five soups contained more than 2g of salt per serving.

Seeds of Change Organic Creamy Tomato soup was the worst offender, with 3.94g of salt per serving, CASH said.
