Cow's milk is not the usual drink of choice for those consumers suffering from lactose intolerance, but thanks to innovation from Arla Foods in the form of Lactofree, now it can be. The product, hailed as the UK's first lactose-free dairy drink when it was launched in January this year, contains less than 0.05% lactose compared with a typical level of 3.5% for standard milk. Yet, according to the company, the gentle filtration process means Lactofree still tastes as nature intended and rivals any milk on the market.
