Sir; I was very interested to be sent a cutting of your story about the Robinson's golly getting the chop. Actually, I was surprised to see them on the shelves when I was last over in England. I'd thought they'd been the victim of some political correctness battle. The golly is absent from Robertson's jam in Canada, although otherwise the packaging is similar. I think people go for the old fashioned look if they're buying British food. Roald Dahl characters? What a strange choice. I don't really associate them with pictures. Will people recognise them? Anyway, it's probably better than some other options. If he hadn't been replaced, he probably would have turned into a rapping, skateboarding, roller blading kind of golly. Witness the shocking change which jelly babies have undergone. I bought some for the kids at the English sweet shop here, and was horrified at all the "radical" activities they get up to. I preferred it when they lay all straight and coffinlike, as if bracing themselves for their imminent consumption. Duncan McKenzie Oakville Toronto Canada {{LETTERS }}
