How did you get to where you are today?

Junction 1 of the M60, onto the M56 until junction nine, following signs for M6 north, come off at junction 23, head for Newton-le-Willows and we are the first building on the left.

What was the best decision you have made in your career and why?

Joining Vimto Soft Drinks, because it is the most fun that I have ever had with my clothes on! We have great people and a really competitive culture. It really is a place where everyone can make a difference.

What is the most important piece of information you have ever been told?

If you do not eat your greens you will never grow up to be big and strong... how right my mum was! Focus your energy on the customer because, if you don't, then someone else will.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The ability to influence, change and witness the growth and development of the people and the brands.

What is the one thing that you could not do your job without?

My customers, my mobile phone... and a calculator, because I clearly can't add up!

If you could start your career again, what would you do differently and why?

I would realise that my right foot was not just for standing on. I would also have liked exposure to non-sales functions at the start of my career because this would have given me a broader business perspective at an earlier age.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry today?

Listen to and work with your customers and do not be afraid to challenge the status quo. Time waits for no man and if you want something, then you need to make it happen.

Do you have a mentor and how have they helped you in your career?

I've been fortunate enough to work for some great managers and leaders, all of whom were slightly unique and different and I've attempted to reflect their good habits in my approach, attitude and behaviour.

What do you like doing when you are not working?

Spending quality time with my wife, Allison, and our three great kids, Olivia, Declan and Harrison. Also coaching the local football team and being inspired by watching Manchester United.

Where do you hope to be in five years time?

Irrespective of the position, experiencing the same job satisfaction and fulfilment that I currently enjoy where I can shape, influence and really make a difference.
