Oakland International has opened a £2.7m distribution depot in Dunkirk to provide a route to market in Europe for UK companies and a hub for firms importing into the UK.
The 108,000 sq ft portside storage and packing depot has been set up to manage the process, from loading containers on and off ships, putting goods onto pallets to distribution via road, rail or sea.
It will also provide packing facilities, including labelling, palletising, quality inspections and promotional packing.
Oakland, whose clients include Sainsbury, Tesco and the Co-operative Group, said it set up the depot to give its existing customers easier access to Europe, as well as attracting new firms which would use the base.
Oadland general manager Dean Atwell said: “We’ve created an opportunity for UK producers and retailers to take their factory gate into continental Europe.”
