Asda has begun the search for 10,000 Christmas workers and said it wanted 3,300 of them to be over 50 years old.
The new recruits ­ 3,000 more than last Christmas ­ will fill a variety of customer service roles such as car park hosts, greeters and bag packers in the run up to Christmas.
On average there will be 39 jobs per store.

Card spending up
Credit and debit card spending on food and drink was up was by 9.9% from August 2001 to August 2002, according to figures released by Barclaycard Merchant Services. The average transaction increased from £35.88 to £36.16.

Waitrose has launched a range of 16 beauty products which are being pitched as skin foods' revitalise and invigorate the complexion.
The supermarket chain said its new range was its first "signature collection" of beauty products.

destination Turin
The Salone del Gusto food show in Turin on October 24-28 will feature the largest British contingent.
A total of 46 regional speciality food and drink producers will exhibit in the British pavilion. The contingent is funded by DEFRA's foot and mouth recovery programme.
