Sir Peter Gershon is to succeed Sir David Lees as chairman of Tate & Lyle by the end of 2009.
Sir Peter joins the board in February as a non-executive director and chairman-elect ahead of his appointment as chairman. Sir Peter is currently chairman of electronics company Premier Farnell, and was CEO of the Office of Government Commerce from 2000 to 2004.
"This is an exciting time to join Tate & Lyle, following the significant re-shaping of the group in the past few years," said Sir Peter.
Sir David Lees has been chairman of Tate & Lyle since 1998.
