Channel Island retailer Le Riche’s Stores is trialling a self-scan system in the Checkers Red Houses store it has just opened in Jersey.
The Check+Go system has been integrated into the retailer’s retail software platform, designed by Torex Retail. It allows customers to scan product prices using a hand-held scanner.
Marketing director John Garton said: “This is a first for Checkers and a first for any retailer in Jersey.
“We’re evaluating it at Red Houses and will decide in February whether we roll it out into our other two Jersey stores. It has gone down incredibly well with customers.” Facilities enabling customers to weigh fresh produce at the fruit and vegetable section or at the till have also been introduced into the 17,000 sq ft store.
Another first at the store is a Check+Tow scheme enabling customers with bicycles to attach tow hods to the back of their bikes to tow groceries home. Garton said that if there was sufficient take-up, the scheme would be rolled out to other stores.
The Red Houses store features more than 1,000 Waitrose ambient and chilled lines, a range of Iceland frozen products and larger organic and gluten-free ranges.
