Poland has once again been cited as a long-term threat to British horticulture, this time by the Cucumber Growers Association at its annual conference.
In the long term it could join major suppliers of cucmber such as Spain and Holland, according to Stuart Lambert of seed breeders Rijk Zwaan.
The conference heard that there has already been investment in new glass at a rate of up to 100 hectares annually.
Poland already has a export trade with Eastern Europe but is now turning its attention west.
