Gordon Summerfield, chairman of Food from Britain, has been appointed to the new position of chairman of Hilton Food Group, which supplies meat to supermarkets and foodservice.

Summerfield, who was awarded a CBE in the Millennium New Year’s Honours list, has held his current post at FFB since 2000.

His career began in the family’s dairy business and has spanned many years in the food and drink industry. He is a former chief executive of Unigate European Foods and was a main board director of Unigate from 1991-2000. He is currently on the board of
Express Dairies as a non-executive director and has been president of the Dairy Industry Federation.

In addition, Robert Watson OBE has been promoted to chief executive of the Hilton Food Group. He was previously chief executive of partner company Foyle Food Group.

Watson is on the council of Food from Britain. He is a past chairman of the Northern Ireland Meat Exporters Association and a previous board member of the Livestock and Meat Commission in Northern Ireland.

Hugh Cawley, former group financial officer for S Daniels, has become finance director at the Hilton Food Group. He has worked for major quoted companies such as ICI and Procter and Gamble and was formerly chief financial officer for Europe, Africa and CIS at the New Zealand Dairy Board.
