Vegans had a bone to pick with Nestlé when it implied dairy products were essential for good health.
Nestlé’s advertorial on the AOL website, ‘Mastering your metabolism part 3: Eat well, feel great’, said: “Dairy products … essential for healthy bones”. The Vegan Society complained the advert was misleading because it was not necessary to eat dairy products for healthy bones.
The ASA ruled the article was likely to mislead consumers because the use of the word ‘essential’ implied that dairy products were the only source of calcium, and told Nestlé to amend its claim.
