William Reed Business Media, the publisher of The Grocer, has announced a major partnership with data giant Nielsen to create the most complete and consistently up-to-date ­database of grocery chains and stores in the UK.

Nielsen has built the ­database using data from William Reed's Knowledge Store, and both parties will work to maintain data quality and ensure it remains the best source of store information. Clients will have access to information through Nielsen Trade Dimensions Online, which provides insight to help suppliers and retailers organise sales forces, optimise logistics and conduct marketing initiatives.

"It gives retailers insight into their competitive set, allowing manufacturers to identify and focus on those stores offering the greatest opportunity," said Nielsen Trade Dimensions brand manager Simon Trott.
