Waitrose has taken aim at Tesco in a new campaign to promote an extension of its 10% off deals for myWaitrose card holders.
Since January, the supermarket has offered myWaitrose card holders 10% off 100 products. Now it is increasing the number of products in the promotion to 500 – half of which are branded and the other half Waitrose Essentials.
It is marking the ramp up of the 10% deals with a new press and TV ad campaign that will run until 5 November. The first TV ads will air tonight on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
As part of the campaign, Waitrose is telling consumers “with your myWaitrose card we are cheaper than Tesco on 100s of branded products”. It said the 10% discounts on brands would make it cheaper than Tesco because it already price matches Tesco on all branded groceries.
Waitrose also offers free tea and coffee to myWaitrose cardholders.
