AB InBev has put the historic ale brand Bass up for sale, according to press reports.

The brewing giant, whose international brands include Stella Artois and Budweiser, is reportedly looking to offload most of its portfolio of UK ales.

The group is thought to value Bass – once the country’s most popular beer – at between £10m and £15m. The Boddingtons and Flowers brands could also be up for grabs.

Rivals including Marston’s, Wells & Young’s, Molson Coors and C&C Group have ruled themselves out as potential buyers, according to the Times.

News of the sale comes despite AB InBev UK president Stuart Macfarlane in March telling The Grocer’s sister title, the Morning Advertiser, that the Stella brewer remained committed to the Bass brand.
