Quorn Foods has recalled 12,000 of its frozen Meat Free Mince packs as they could contain small pieces of metal.
The Food Standards Agency has urged consumers not to eat the product, and to return it to stores for a full refund. The product was available at Tesco stores, and the recall only applies to 300g packs bought after the 27 February 2017 with a best before date of 31 August 2018.
Quorn said the recall was a precautionary measure due to an “isolated production issue”, but declined to give any further information on the issue. No other batches had been affected.
The recall follows a £10m relaunch of the brand on 1 March, which saw Quorn’s packaging revamped to a new “modern” slate and orange design. Quorn said the metal contamination did not affect any of its revamped products.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers is our number one priority, which is why we instigated this recall as soon as we became aware of the issue,” said a spokeswoman for the brand. “We would stress that this recall relates to a single batch of a single product on sale via a single retailer for less than two days from a single distribution depot.”
