Lidl will restock its random non-food range on Sundays rather than Mondays, after it said research showed a “clear trend” among shoppers to buy more non-food items on Sundays.

The change will take place from 4 September. Non-food items on sale during week one are expected to include chainsaws and hedge trimmers for £60.

“Our non-food products, which range from fashion to DIY, are a key area of the business and the ‘middle of Lidl’ has historically been extremely popular with shoppers,” said Lidl UK purchasing director Matthew Nobbs.

“We always have our customer front of mind and, in light of this research, it was clear to us that our loyal Lidl shoppers wanted to see the products in store on a Sunday instead of Monday, so it really was a no-brainer for us to make the move.”

Lidl now has 630 stores in the UK. According to the latest Kantar Worldpanel data, the discounter has reached a new market share high of 4.5%. Year-on-year sales are up 12.5%, making it the UK’s fastest-growing supermarket.
