Ocado has made further inroads in its quest to achieve operational efficiencies by signing up for a new “spoke” at Stockley Close, Heathrow.

The online grocer has signed a 15-year lease for two units totalling 56,947 sq ft on the 191,259 sq ft estate.

The units will be converted into one larger property, subject to planning permission, that will become Ocado’s 15th spoke and will service customers in South West London.

The depot will complement the group’s customer fulfilment centres in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and Dordon, Warwickshire, from which deliveries are made throughout the country, and a 560,000 sq ft Erith logistics ‘hub’ in South East London, which is expected to be operational by 2017.

The Stockley Close spoke comes hot on the heels of one at the redeveloped Guinness Brewery site in West London, earlier this year.

Ocado’s head of property and network development, Ian Starling, said: “As the world’s largest dedicated online grocery supermarket, having quick and direct access to our customers is vital. We want to deliver the best-quality product in the shortest time.”
