Sainsbury’s is gearing up to launch its TU clothing range online.

Both Tesco and Asda offer clothing over the internet, but Sainsbury’s is yet to take TU online.

This week, the retailer revealed this would happen within months. Responding to a query from a consumer on its Facebook site as to why its clothing was not available over the internet, a spokesman said: “I am sorry that you can’t get clothing online. We are looking to add this to our website in the coming months.”

Sainsbury’s presence in the clothing market is growing rapidly and its annual results last month revealed TU was the UK’s seventh-largest clothing brand by volume and sixth-largest childrenswear brand. Clothing continues to grow faster than its food business, and it posted record schoolwear sales last year - up 38% on the year.

It has also joined forces with TV fashion guru Gok Wan, who has designed four clothing collections under the Gok 4 TU range. Some items from the latest collection had sold out due to high demand, said the retailer.
