Waitrose is boosting availability of Thanksgiving-related products in response to a “surge” in the festival’s popularity in the UK.

Following a 95% hike in November turkey sales over the past five years, the upmarket retailer will be increasing availability of key lines and adding extra delivery slots at certain stores to cope with the anticipated spike in demand.

turkeys, condensed milk, pumpkin purée and cranberry sauce are expected to be the biggest-selling products ahead of 27 November.

“We’ve definitely noticed a surge in the popularity of Thanksgiving over the last few years, as people embrace the delicious food traditions and celebrate an evening with friends and family,” said Waitrose turkey buyer Frances Westerman.

Waitrose said demand for Thanksgiving food started in stores near US populations at naval bases and universities but had now spread all over the UK.
