Sher Bros, the Glasgow-based C&C acquired by Bestway in April, fell into the red last year.

Accounts filed at Companies House this week reveal the wholesaler recorded a pre-tax loss of £817,293 in the year to 31 December 2013, versus a profit of £63,158 the year before. Turnover fell 3.5% to £41.7m.

Bestway acquired Sher Bros for an undisclosed sum following a lengthy period of due diligence.

Since acquisition it has doubled the wholesaler’s trading space to 100,000 sq ft and added several new departments including licensed, chilled & frozen and world foods.

The depot will also be dual-branded Bestway & Batleys Wholesale - the first for Bestway Group. The depot will officially relaunch next week.
