Asda is planning to offer an online tool that will allow customers to track their online shopping, The Grocer has learnt.

Earlier this month, the retailer launched a service allowing shoppers to track the vans carrying their deliveries and receive an estimated time of arrival if they called a customer service line. Asda was now looking at ways to develop this service further by making it available on its website over the next few months, an insider said.

"The piece of kit has been installed into each van and has gone live," he said. "So now, if you have a delivery due to arrive between 2pm and 4pm and you call us at 3pm because you have to pop out, we will be able to pinpoint where that van is and give an accurate delivery time. We want customers to be able to access this service online."

The service is provided by vehicle tracking company Isotrak.
