Two of Woodward Foodservice's eight depots have been closed and a third is under threat following its acquisition by Brakes in August for £20m.

Woodward Foodservice depots in Barnsley and Durham have shut and Brakes is consulting over the potential closure of a site in Aberdeen.

There were no plans to make any further closures beyond that, said Brakes strategy director Ian Goldsmith.

"We are very pleased with the way it has performed and it will continue to be run as a business in its own right," he said.

Brakes also confirmed rumours that it had made up to 100 redundancies over the past two months as part of a programme of "continuous improvement".

Meanwhile Brakes' rival 3663 First For Foodservice reported a drop in profits in the first four months of the financial year at the agm of parent company Bidvest.
